French Immersion Boundary Realignment Update

At the last Board meeting, the Trustees unanimously voted in favour of the following proposals:

That the Durham District School Board:

~Approve the demolition of T.R. McEwen PS and the construction of a new school on the McEwen site.

~ Approve the consolidation of Gertrude Colpus PS and T.R. McEwen PS into a newly constructed dual track school on the McEwen site for September 2013.

~ Approve the programming of Unnamed Springridge PS as a dual track school.

~ Approve the early transition, through the out of area process, of the grouping that currently attends TR McEwen PS and lives in the area surrounding Walter E. Harris PS for September 2012, without transportation.

~ Approve the commencement of the formal boundary consultation process outlined in Policy and Procedure #3313 in Fall 2012 for the French Immersion realignment and the English program boundary for Unnamed Springridge PS, to be effective September 2013.

Fit and Lit Night is back better than ever!

Fit and Lit night (Fitness and Literacy Night), is back better than ever.  This year, we have special guest presentors from Drumfit.  They will be drumming with our students all day and then back to drum with our W.E.H community.  There will be four workshops throughout the evening all beginning at 5:30pm until 7:30pm, on Wednesday, February 15th, 2012.  There is a Nutritionist, Librarian from the Oshawa Public Library, our very own students running an active version of BINGO called FITGO and A Shiatsu self care workshop.  Also, we will have a number of our community partners joining us in educating our community on fitness and health.  There will be many freebees as well from our community partners.

Feed the Need is back for Valentines!

Thank you for your participation in our Christmas collection for FEED THE NEED DURHAM. We did very well and we are ready to begin our second collection.
This second collection will start as of today and end on February 13th. If you are able to participate, please send an item of your choice to school, with your child.  Thank-you in advance for your contribution.  W.E.H Staff

   

W.E.H Folkdancing Club

This year our school will be having a Folkdancing team.  If you are in Grades 3-6, please meet us in the gym every Mondays at lunch, to learn the new songs for the 2012 Folkdance Jamboree.  The Folkdance Club will perform at the Jamboree in May of 2012.  Please see Mme Mitchell or Mme Harbec for more information.
   

Chess Club

Grades 3 to 8 are welcome to come and join the Chess Club!  The Chess Club meets every Wednesday from 11:20 to 12:00 in room 204 with Mr Decornez.  If you are intersted, please see Mr Decornez to sign up!  Please meet in Room 204 and learn this fun and exciting game of Chess.

 

   

Let's support our Oshawa Powers Basketball team

We have recently been offered some exiting news to share with our W.E.H school community. This year our school has partnered up with the new NBL Oshawa Power Basketball team to help with our Character Education intiatives. In return, they have offered our entire W.E.H community FREE tickets to an upcoming game. All ticket request forms are due on Tuesday, January 17th, 2012.   We would like to fill an entire section at the GM Centre with Walter E. Harris fans. Here is the game night information:

Junior and Senior Kindergarten Registration 2012-2013

Junior and Senior Kindergarten

Pre-registration for the Durham District School Board's junior and senior Kindergarten programs in September 2012 begins Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Parents must phone their local elementary school to pre-register their child for classes. Proof of the child's age and the child's immunization record will be requested. To attend junior kindergarten, a child must be four years old by December 31, 2012 and, to begin senior kindergarten, a child must be five years old by December 31, 2012. If the number of students pre-registered for a class exceeds the class limit, some students may be required to attend another school. The Board's policy on transportation includes both junior and senior kindergarten students.

Happy New Year to everyone!  We are happy to see all of our students back at school. Our character trait for the month is Courage.  "I face challenges directly.  I speak up for myself and others when it may be unpopular.  I ask for help when necessary.  I recognize risks and dangers and do not take unwise chances to please others."
